Finding Your Place: How to Rebuild Self-Confidence and Find Meaning

I spent a good part of my life trying to fit into boxes—the "ideal" career path, social expectations, what everyone else wanted for me... and in the end? I rarely found the one that fit me. Not until travel and training gave me a few answers.
What if this feeling of inadequacy wasn’t a reflection of social rejection, but rather of an internal misalignment? What if it was just the painful gap between who we’ve become and who we think we have to be in order to be accepted?
We often think our lack of self-confidence is the root of the problem, but it’s actually the consequence. We end up telling ourselves, "If I don't fit in, it’s because I’m not good enough." When, in reality, it might just be that we’re trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. We exhaust ourselves playing a role, until the mask becomes too heavy to carry...

3 Levers to Reconnect with Yourself
To find meaning and build lasting confidence, you don’t need to revolutionize everything overnight. It’s all about transforming your relationship with yourself.
1. Self-Compassion: Stop Being Your Own Worst Enemy
We are often our own harshest critics—let’s be honest, it’s exhausting. Real self-confidence (and self-esteem ;)) isn’t built on self-criticism, but on accepting our own shadows.
The Tool: Every night, take a moment to note three things you accomplished—even if it’s just saying "no" to something or taking a moment to breathe. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a dear friend. This is the foundation.
2. Sorting by Values: Our Internal Compass
When you feel out of place, it’s often because you need clarity on your values, your needs, and your non-negotiables.
The Tool: List your 5 to 10 core values (freedom, authenticity, curiosity, etc.). Once listed, ask yourself: In which areas of your life are they currently most present? Most absent? If your job or daily routine is the polar opposite of these values, it’s only natural to feel like you're "off track." :) Meaning returns the moment our actions align with our gut feelings.
3. Stop Waiting to Act
This is the number one trap: waiting until you feel "ready" or "confident" to move. Spoiler alert: you will never be 100% ready. Confidence comes after the action, never before.
The Tool: The "micro-challenge" rule. Try one thing this week that pushes you just slightly out of your comfort zone. Each micro-success proves to your brain that you can handle the unknown. You’ll gradually expand your comfort zone and eventually achieve things that once seemed impossible.
Finding Your Place is an Inside Job
Finding your place in the world always starts from within. If you feel like a "stranger" to yourself, no external environment can give you the sense of legitimacy you’re looking for... Self-confidence isn't an indestructible suit of armor. It’s flexibility. It’s accepting the power to say, "I’m not in the right place here, and that’s okay. I’m taking the time to seek out an environment where I can flourish."
Did you know? The quest for meaning is a powerful engine for resilience. Giving meaning to our journey—even to our mistakes and moments of doubt—is what transforms every challenge into a new strength.
