Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to learn the basics of MOSAIC® therapy, an innovative therapeutic approach rooted in neuroscience and inspired by the principles of EMDR. It is a method that is still relatively unknown to the general public, but one that is particularly effective in gently addressing trauma, anxiety, burnout and certain emotional wounds.
EMDR & MOSAIC® : what are the differences ?
Nowadays, many people seek EMDR therapy to work through trauma, emotional blockages or difficult experiences.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a recognised method that uses alternating bilateral stimulation — eye movements, sounds or tapping — to help the brain reprocess painful memories.
MOSAIC® therapy is based on the same neurophysiological principle as EMDR, but with a different approach.
Whereas EMDR often requires revisiting the difficult memory, MOSAIC® instead seeks to help the brain experience the restorative emotional state that the person would have needed to feel at that moment: safety, comfort, trust, freedom, calm…
In other words, instead of re-experiencing the pain, we directly reinforce the person’s internal resources and positive bodily sensations.

A gentler therapeutic approach than EMDR
And that is precisely what made me want to train in this method.
During the training, I was able to experience MOSAIC® therapy for myself, both as a practitioner and as a participant. And I was genuinely impressed by the power of the physical and emotional sensations generated by this approach.
Thanks to alternating bilateral stimulation (tapping, sounds through stereo headphones or eye movements), the brain gradually enters a state of deep emotional integration.
The work takes place less in the mind and more in the physical and sensory experience.
For many people who are anxious, hypersensitive or have experienced difficult events, this approach can feel more reassuring and less confrontational than therapy that focuses directly on trauma and talking.
In what situations can MOSAIC® therapy help?
Like EMDR, MOSAIC® therapy can be used to address a wide range of emotional issues:
anxiety and chronic stress
burnout and emotional exhaustion
depression
psychological trauma
bereavement
phobias
low self-esteem
hypersensitivity
past emotional wounds
relationship difficulties
The aim is not simply to ‘understand’ what is happening, but to enable the nervous system to regain a more stable state of inner security.
